I am new to the industry…Is this the right role for me?

This entry-level program is designed to prepare SLDP Trainees for opportunities in B2B Sales and Operations Management within a few years.  SLDP’s are stationed at local Branches across the market where they are provided structured hands-on training in each role.  Our goal is to provide the SLDP Trainee with industry knowledge, leadership skills, and the business acumen tools necessary to succeed.  There is no need to have industry experience…you’ll get plenty of hands-on experience in the program!

 

What does the Program Look Like and how will I learn?

National Wholesale Supply is a growing organization with a wide range of experienced employees.  The SLDP is designed to cultivate an environment that allows learning at your pace.  Although there are many challenges in learning something new, the rewards from graduating the program will guide the SLDP Trainee throughout their career.

 

No two SLDP Trainees will have the exact same schedule, but the typical schedule will include ~4 years of extensive, hands-on training.  Time in each specialization will be catered to the individual’s strengths, to their specific needs, and to the needs of the business.  Management is there to guide the trainees progress and coach them at every step along the way.  A typical SLDP Trainees schedule may look as follows:

 

  • Warehouse Operations: ~3 Months
  • Counter Sales: 6-8 Months
  • Inside Sales: 12-18 Months
  • Operations Leadership: ~3 Months
  • Outside Sales: ~18 Months
  • Graduate the Program!

 

Upon Graduation, the SLDP Trainee will have become a leader within our organization and learned valuable skills and gathered necessary industry knowledge.  They will have determined the path that most suites their personal goals and career aspirations: Branch Management, Operations Management, or Outside Sales!

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

What are some of the activities I will perform as a SLDP Trainee?

 

  • Learn best practices in operations, management, inventory control, and purchasing.
  • Set goals with management. Work towards success and mastery at each stage of the program.
  • Increase product and industry knowledge through market research, training sessions, and group interactions.
  • Engage directly with customers at the counter, on the phone, or via the web. Help provide solutions that solve their issues.
  • Engage with our Outside Sales team members to provide daily support to our customers.
  • Engage with our vendor partners. Learn the value they bring to the business.
  • Work within a consignment location to provide customer support and solutions.
  • Perform special projects to improve the Branch and warehouse processes.
  • Lead operations teams to improve metrics and meet stretch goals.
  • Spend time in the field cultivating relationships with the customer base.
  • Soak up the information in the Required Reading…focus on Leadership, Salesmanship, and Serving Others.
  • Aid in the hiring of Branch employees. Help create the culture needed to succeed.
  • Learn company policies, management strategies, and best practices in wholesale distribution.

Wholesale Delivery Driver

Delivery Driver personnel are responsible for pulling material, loading trucks by hand or with a fork lift, delivering product to customers, and picking up product from vendors. Working in the warehouse to pick customers orders. They always work safely and are friendly to all internal and external customers. Focus is on efficient and safe operations, while cultivating customer relationships and exceeding customer expectations of prompt delivery.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

· Drive a National Wholesale Supply (NWS) truck while operating it safely and within compliance of all NWS rules, applicable laws, and state and federal regulations. Driver destinations include customers, vendors, and other NWS locations.

· Perform a truck pre-check inspection prior to any route deliveries. This should be done multiple times per day depending on how many routes are scheduled.

· Pull products from the warehouse to fulfill orders.

· Safely package and bundle loads for transport. Secure the loads to prevent shifting, damage, or falling of any product. Use proper tie down procedures to prevent movement of packages during the delivery process. Safely unload product at destinations.

· Pay proper attention to which items are to be delivered to which locations. Multiple orders will be placed on each truck route.

· Work with customers to quickly resolve any customer service issues including quantity or item discrepancies.

· Provide and maintain a high level of customer service to both internal and external customers. Build and maintain a positive working relationship with customers, vendors, and co-workers.

· Perform other reasonably related duties and tasks as required by Management.

Qualifications

· Minimum of 3 or more years of experience in driving a commercial truck (26 foot flatbed, stakebed, or equivalent) and making deliveries.

· Must be 21 years old and possess a valid drivers’ license.

· Must understand the laws, rules, and regulations governing driving motor vehicles.

· Able to safely operate any commercial motor vehicle that has a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of up to 26,000 lbs.

· Able to stay calm and function in a stressful, unexpected, or emergency situation.

· Must possess a High School diploma or equivalent.

· Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers and common fractions or decimals.

· Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English. Bi-lingual is a plus.

The Warehouse Manager is responsible for the effectiveness of the warehouse operations within the Branch. This includes the management of the organization of the warehouse, the warehouse employees, the incoming and outgoing material processing, and all training and safety of warehouse employees. Focus is on efficient and safe operations, while cultivating customer relationships and exceeding customer expectations of prompt service. The Warehouse Manager role requires leadership, operational organization, and the ability to create a strong team.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

o Assist the Branch Manager and Operations Manager with employee hirings, terminations, and evaluations as needed.

o Management of the Delivery Fleet.

  • Assist in the routing of product deliveries to our customers and product pickups from our vendors.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of all delivery vehicles is performed on a timely basis.
  • Verify truck pre-check inspections prior to any route deliveries. This should be done multiple times per day depending on how many routes are scheduled.
  • Verify truck loads are safely packaged for transport. Secure the loads to prevent shifting, damage, or falling of any product. Use proper tie down procedures to prevent movement of packages during the delivery process. Safely unload product at destinations.
  • Ensure Delivery Drivers are trained properly and staffed accordingly.
  • On occasion, the Warehouse Manager may be required to safely operate a National Wholesale Supply (NWS) truck. Must adhere to compliance of all NWS rules, applicable laws, and state and federal regulations.

o Management of Inventory Receiving/Stocking.

  • Verify accurate receiving is done by the receiving team.
  • Verify accurate stocking is done by the receiving team.
  • Improve and document operational processes as opportunities arise.
  • Coach the team on best practices and proper receiving and stocking techniques.
  • Assist with unloading of vendor trucks.

o Management of Customer Orders.

  • Utilizing pick tickets to pull customer orders quickly, accurately, and efficiently.
  • Verify material counts are correct and material is suitable for shipment to customer.
  • Follow double-check process to ensure customer delivery accuracy.
  • Verify proper storage and organization of customer orders prior to delivery/pickup.

o Management of Inventory Control.

  • Perform cycle counts on a daily and on an as-needed basis.
  • Organize and label shelving, bins, product, etc.
  • Work with vendors on shipment discrepancies. Train the receiving team on this process.
  • Follow-up on discrepancy RGA’s to insure timely receipts of credits. Train the receiving team on this process.
  • Work with the Branch Manager and Operations Manager on material discrepancies.
  • Organize and maintain the layout of the warehouse to maximize space and minimize order pulling times.
  • Take the lead on making sure the branch is prepared for the yearly inventory.

o Management of Housekeeping.

  • Create and maintain proper housekeeping program throughout the facility. Embrace the challenge and create the culture with safety and cleanliness in mind.
  • Verify the warehouse, yard, and any storage units are organized and clean of debris daily.
  • Through leadership and influence, hold all branch employees accountable to meeting the expectations you set for housekeeping.
  • Maintain warehouse cleanliness, order, and safety. Remove empty cartons, metal bands, pallets, and other debris daily.

o Work with customers to quickly resolve any customer service issues including quantity or item discrepancies.
